Gail Bourgeois maintains a studio based drawing practice where she works on variety of projects at the same time. Certain ones are then developed into series. Her themes and methods of working express the tension between academic knowledge and more experimental forms of knowledge based on her interest in collective practices and community engagement. In 2013-2014, she was invited artist in residence at the Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum. Her exhibition To warn other Canadians / Avertir les autres Canadiens took place in 2014.
Gail holds an MFA from Concordia University. She is a founding member of Powerhouse Gallery (La Centrale, Montreal, 1973). She has founded or formed part of a dozen artists’ collectives and has been exhibiting professionally since 1985 in Canada and internationally. Previous solo exhibitions include: Incidental things, Research-in-Art Artist Project Room, Ottawa (2011) and Particle Factor, IPO Gallery, Ottawa (2008).
